Hey famjam, sorry I've been MIA but it's been a busy month and March doesn't look to be any less busy!
So while I don't have much to say, I will leave you with a process video of the latest project I did for Experience Design. We began to dabble in Arduino boards and coding in Processing and I ended up using an infrared IR rangefinding sensor to sense motion and range and cause sounds to happen. Check it out!! :)

SNOW DAY!
Classes got canceled last night starting at 7pm and going until 8:30am Thursday! So I get to miss 3 classes...which is pretty awesome :) One of my classmates had his birthday yesterday so since class was canceled we went to the bar (I got a Shirley Temple....so don't even start scolding :P) Then many night adventures in the snow ensued.

Portfolio Site, Portfolio Site!
Well, I started designing/coding my website over winter break and spent quite a few hours trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Naturally, once I was almost all set, I then chose to ask my peers about it and got lots of great feedback; however, with great feedback comes big changes. Sigh. So finally, about 4 weeks after I originally wanted it to be done, after countless hours of recoding, edits, changes and new markup (I calculate probably 18 this weekend alone), I present to you all my portfolio website:
www.ariyavatkul.com
Yay! :) There are still a few changes I want to do eventually. I spent the majority of this day/night (yes, it's 5:30AM right now) trying to work with Alex to figure out how to get a nice scrolling navigation going so that when you click the links, it scrolls smoothly and I also wanted to implement some forward/back arrows for scrolling so I don't have to have the ugly scrollbar. But alas, we spent about 4 hours and it was acting super weird and refused to work. So, I gave up for now and decided to just launch the damn thing. Changes can come later, right?! It seems to work fine in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Opera and IE treat the DIVs funny and refuses to float them after the first one, which is annoying but not a complete bust as long as you use the sidebar navigation. There are always bugs, and I'm sure I will be fixing/updating this for the rest of my freakin life. Until then, enjoy what I managed to come up with! :)

Look Ma, new hair!
Soooo we were at CVS today and Stacey got herself some hair dye and I decided (for the first time EVER) to dye my hair! It's just a few shades darker than my natural hair color, but I like it!!

Back to the grind..
I know, I know, it's been a month. I didn't blog mid-december because of finals and then I was home and with pretty much everyone that reads this so I didn't feel it was necessary. Anyway, I'm back at school and we're already busy! Sigh. In any case, I spent my last week of break in Ann Arbor with friends and ended up going to a friend from high school's 21st birthday party. It was a wine and cheese party and it was super fun!

So I've been working all day and am taking a break to update my life. There may or may not be pictures depending on how long this takes as I have to get back to work!
My past month(ish) in bullets:
....So that was less exciting than I was hoping. Essentially, I have less than a week left of this semester and I'm somewhere between panic, crisis, and inner peace. It's liberating to know I won't have any homework for three weeks, and terrifying that I have less than 6 days to complete everything I need to do which at this point consists of:
(more bullets)
In any case, this is the 4th night in a row of 5 hours of sleep or less and definitely will not be the last. However, despite how little sleep I get in the next 6 days, I will be able to sleep indefinitely on break and I have plans to freaking hibernate.
ANYWAY, now that I've thoroughly whined through this blog post, here are some pictures to lighten the mood (mostly taken between the hours of 3am-6am and at hyperactive states of sleep deprivation)

My past month(ish) in bullets:
- Went home for thanksgiving!! It was so so so nice to see some family! For pics of this go see Nino's blog!
- Came back to school
- Homework
- ....More homework
- Went to the market! Got fruit!
- Homework :(
- Can you guess what comes next?

It's liberating to know I won't have any homework for three weeks, and terrifying that I have less than 6 days to complete everything I need to do which at this point consists of:
(more bullets)
- one final book, all content created by me including pictures, hand-bound.
- two process books, which have to be organized, cut and bound
- one logo project which has to be applied to a complete line of stationary with an extra application (a calendar in my case) all printed and mounted
- a working mobile app (working as in conceptually working interfaces in flash, not actually coded to work on a phone)
- two essays for history of modern design class as well as studying for a written exam
- final edited video of an interview for a mini-documentary
